Education Matters

There are some significant changes coming to the Playcentre Adult Education programme.  These changes will impact on individuals training and also supervision requirements within centres.

It is vital that everyone understands how these changes will affect them and what they could be doing to minimise any adverse impact.  Please see here for more explanation. If you require more clarification or information, please contact one of the education team or talk to your CST when they visit or phone the office, 3772540 to speak to Alex, Jen or Debbie.

Attended all the Course workshops but did not get around to completing tasks?

Students who have been active in their training have received an email from the national training co-ordinator about the changes in the programme and what this means for them. If you have attended all the workshops but have not submitted a task you did not receive this information. Course 2 students need to have submitted a task by the 1st December 2017 otherwise all their attendance has been for nought. Ideally you should complete the whole Course as this should not take longer than a term to complete. If you require suppor,t call a member of the education team during office hours or send an email to

We will carry on with the Course 3 and 4 programme in the new year as per usual. It is in peoples benefit to keep doing this. Completed modules of these Courses can be transitioned in the new programme once decisions around cross crediting have been made. A completed Course 3 and Course 4 are able to support the licensing requirements for their centre for a while. New parents/students can only enrol in the new programme from term 1 of 2018 onwards.

Last Course 2 blocks ever!

The new qualifications will be rolled out in term 1 of 2018. This is very exciting keeping in mind that these qualifications are national qualifications on the NZQA framework and should be more easily transferable outside Playcentre than the internal certificates from the current Playcentre diploma.

At the moment we have Playcentre courses that build on each other from Course 2 all the way to Course 6. As you go you can support your centre with licensing requirements, be it Course 2 or Course 3 or higher. The new qualifications are a total programme with a clear start and finish. You cannot do bits here and there for a group of parents on Playcentre session to cover enough credits to receive bulk funding.

There will be a transition arrangement for licensing which allows plenty of time continuing to use the current licensing qualifications (Course 1,2 3 and 4) even once the new qualifications start being delivered.

Next term is the last time we will deliver Course 2 workshops for new students at CPA. We strongly encourage all parents who want to support their centre with a small qualification to get on board and complete this Course. This also leaves you the option to carry on with Course 3 if you like the training programme. Both Courses, completed, can be transferred to a certain extend into the new qualifications.

If you are keen to be part of the last Course 2 student group, don't let anything be a barrier. Fill out the Course 2 request form for a centre block and send to Remember to work with your neighbours: we want to see a group or a crowd not a couple of people.

Kind regards,

CPA Education team.
